NEENAH, Wis. - Susan Smith McNeely, of Neenah, 68, passed away, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013. She was born March 31, 1945, in Escanaba, daughter of the late William and Jean (Van Brocklin) Smith.
Susan graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in psychology. She married Dean McNeely on Aug. 27, 1966. He preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1993.
Susan retired from Theda Clark Medical Center where she was the manager of the gift shop. She loved playing bridge and "making" her crazy bids; affecting the outcome of a Packer game depending on if she was wearing her Packer poncho or not; spending a beautiful day floating on the water; and reminding her granddaughter that she loved her "to the moon and back."
Susan was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Menasha, where she was active with the Altar Guild.
Survivors include her three children, Shelley McNeely, Scott (Michelle) McNeely, Shannon McNeely; a granddaughter, Payton McNeely; and a brother, Van (Nancy) Smith.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 4 p.m., at St. Thomas Church, 226 Washington St., Menasha, with The Rev. Ralph Osborne officiating. The visitation will be held at the church from 2 p.m. until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Theda Clark Auxiliary in Susan's name.
