MARQUETTE - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers juggled their practice squad Tuesday and Escanaba native Jace Daniels ended up being the odd man out. He was released in favor of wide receiver Skye Dawson.
Daniels said Dawson was picked up because the Bucs had injuries at the wide receiver position and not because of his performance.
He said the move is what it is, but he'll keep working in hopes of latching on somewhere.
"They needed a receiver right now and I was on the bubble," he said Wednesday morning from Marquette. "The coaches told me to stay in shape and be ready for a call."
Daniels was cut on Saturday when the Buccaneers trimmed their roster to the regular season limit 53 players, but was signed the team's practice squad on Sunday before being released again Tuesday.
Daniels was optimistic though, saying a new opportunity could come at any time with the frequency of roster turnover in the NFL.
"My agent is still talking to Tampa Bay and the other 31 teams, and seeing what's going on with injuries around the league," he said.
