Escanaba and Logging Congress a good match

September 5, 2013
Daily Press

We're expecting company this weekend.

Escanaba is once again fortunate enough to host the 68th Annual Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association's Lake States Logging Congress & Equipment Expo. The majority of activities at the Logging Congress will take place Friday and Saturday, but the event actually opens tonight with a President's Kick Off social event. All events will be held at the U.P. State Fairgrounds.

The Logging Congress and Escanaba are not strangers. The Logging Congress has been here many times before - the last time in 2011. Traditionally, the Logging Congress alternates between sites in Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. It is a testament to Escanaba and the facilities at the U.P. State Fairgrounds that the Logging Congress has chosen to return here again and again.

To the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association - welcome. We are glad you are here. We hope that holding your event in Escanaba benefits your group as much as your event benefits Escanaba.

It is estimated that between 6,000 and 8,000 people attend the two-day Logging Congress, along with about 200 vendors on site. Over a two-day period that brings a significant economic impact to Escanaba and the surrounding area. Hotels and motels are booked, restaurants are full, Logging Congress participants shop at local stores - need we say more.

The event isn't only about logging equipment. There are fun competition ranging from a ladies bowling pin throw, tug-o-war between Michigan and Wisconsin residents, Smokey Bear and more. For more information and a schedule of Logging Congress events, go to the local news section of the Daily Press website, www.dailypress.net.

The Logging Congress runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $10 and covers both Friday and Saturday. It's an event worth checking out.
