GLADSTONE - Escanaba High School junior Eric Cousineau cruised to victory in the Third Annual Delta County Jaycees five-kilometer run Saturday, covering the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 31 seconds.
He was followed by recent Esky graduate Andrew Stenberg (19:28) and Cody Cousineau, also of Escanaba, (21:34).
"I didn't want to burn myself out because we have Valley Spur (the Munising Invitational) coming up on Tuesday," said Eric. "We had good weather today and this is a nice, flat course. This was a good tune-up for Tuesday."

Garden resident Brittany Richard was the top female finisher in the Third Annual Delta County Jaycees Run, Walk or Waddle 5K race Saturday in Gladstone. Richard, a sophomore at UW-Stevens Point ran the race in 21:42. She will open the cross country season at Stevens Point on Sept. 14.
The race also served as a tune-up for Brittany Richard of Garden, who opens her sophomore cross country season at Wisconsin-Steven Point on Sept. 14.
She was clocked at 21:42. Her mother, Jill Richard of Garden, was runner-up (23:42), with Donna Thackwray of Marquette third (26:32).
"I hadn't run a 5-K for about 1 1/2 months, so my time wasn't too bad," said Brittany. "This race was a good tune-up for cross country and our time trial in Stevens Point on Friday. The breeze felt nice, but it was hot out there."

14 & under - Katie Stephenson, Gladstone, 27:04; 15-19 - Brittany Richard, Garden, 21:42; 20-29 - Christina Saxon, Shelby Township, Mich., 31:53; 30-39 - Nichole Corbett, Escanaba, 29:49; 40-49 - Jill Richard, Garden, 23:42; 50-59 - Donna Thackwray, Marquette, 26:32; 60 & over - Judy Balanda, Rapid River, 34:57.
The event, which drew 32 runners and walkers, was run under sunny conditions and temperatures in the mid 70s.
