LAS VEGAS - Jerome Paul Besson, of Las Vegas, recently entered into eternal rest with the Lord. He had been a resident of Las Vegas since 2001.
He was born in Escanaba and was the son of the late Marian and George Besson. He attended St. Anne's Grade School and was a graduate of Escanaba High School.
Immediately after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean conflict. He received an honorable discharge after four years of service.
He then worked for a number of years as a salesman for the Swift Plankinton Company in Green Bay.
With great interest in, and with considerable knowledge of the food industry, he and his wife spent the majority of their years as owners/managers of several fine dining establishments in Iowa, Arizona and Las Vegas until their retirement approximately seven years ago. Jerome had proven to be a very kind, caring and hardworking man.
Jerry, as he was affectionately known, enjoyed good music and possessed a fine singing voice. Along with a small Saturday night band, he would often entertain his patrons as they dined.
He had a great interest in golfing and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan to the end.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of Las Vegas; three daughters, Patricia (Gary) Selke, Mary Beth (Randy) Elswick both of Washington, Mich.; Katherine (Ken) Penoyer of Temeculah, Calif; and a son, Michael of Las Vegas; five granddaughters, five grandsons and one great-granddaughter. He is further survived by a sister, Joan Besson of Escanaba.
He also leaves behind his much loved canine buddy, Brett, who provided Jerry with many hours of fun and companionship.
Graveside services were held in Escanaba on Aug. 9, 2013, with Rev. Emmett Norden officiating. Military rites were conducted by the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Escanaba.
