GARDEN CORNERS - Frank William "Bill" Manning, 46, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 17, 2013, at his parents' home in Garden Corners after a lengthy battle with kidney disease and cancer.

Bill was born Dec. 6, 1966, in Escanaba, Mich., the son of William and Judith (Sheppard) Manning. He lived on the Garden Peninsula until 1968, when his family moved to Manistique, Mich. In 1972, the family again moved to Tahquamenon Falls State Park where his father worked. Several more moves occurred before the family returned in 1976 to Fayette State Park.

Bill graduated from Big Bay De Noc High School in 1985 and attended Bay Community College in Escanaba and Northern Michigan University in Marquette.

In 2004, he became a certified massage therapist. Bill also held the position as trustee of Garden Township.

Bill's passions were working on old cars, ice fishing and sitting in the deer blind with his father.

In 1990, Bill lost his eyesight and then became the recipient of two wonderful leader dogs, Sara and Mollie. They were the joy of his life.

In 1992, Bill was fortunate to undergo a double kidney/pancreas transplant at the University Hospital in Minnesota.

Bill is survived by his parents, William and Judith Manning of Garden Corners; sister, Deborah Manning of Escanaba; and aunt, Mary McConnell of Jonesville, Mich.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Garden.
