Diane LaMarch

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Diane LaMarch, 62, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, surrounded by family and friends at her home in San Diego, Calif., following a lengthy illness with cancer.

She was born on Sept. 18, 1950, in Escanaba, daughter to Philip L. and Leona (Richer) LaMarch. Diane graduated from Holy Name High School in 1968 and continued her education at Michigan State University where she earned her Bachelors. She earned her Masters in social work at University of San Diego.

Diane started with Child Welfare in 1979. She was promoted to senior worker in 1986 and then to Protective Services Supervisor in 1989 both in Residential Services. She offered clinical supervision to staff throughout the years, and was an early champion for intensive Family Preservation Program as well as Family Unity meetings. In 2001, Diane was promoted to manager and during her time in that position, had oversight of the Child Abuse Hotline, Family Preservation, Family Unity, Team Decision making, Training Liaison, and licensing supervision programs.

In March 2010 Diane retired to enjoy her hobbies including bike riding, yoga, running, hiking, drinking red wine, dinner with friends, traveling, and participating in colon cancer benefit walks.

Diane is most remembered for her kind heart, her listening ear, her sense of humor, and her passionate and unwavering commitment to the children and families she served.

She had the unique ability to bring people together from all walks of life. Diane saw the best in people and she had the gift of bringing out the best in others. She loved kids, not just here own nieces and nephews, but the kids she helped protect with her work at Child Protective Services.

Survivors include her siblings, Charlene Carlson and Dennis (Linda) LaMarch of Escanaba, Carol LaMarch of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Therese (Patrick) Fitzgerald of Murdock, Fla., Mary LaMarch, Steve (Patti) LaMarch, and Rick (Lori) LaMarch all of Escanaba; and she was the favorite aunt to many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents and brother in law, Neil Carlson.

Visitation will be on Monday, Aug. 19 from 4 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Parish Prayers will be at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with Rev. Rick Courier officiating.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
