MASONVILLE - Robert A. "Bob" Berg, 83, passed away at his home in Masonville, on Aug. 15, 2013.

Robert was born in Munising on March 6, 1930. He was the second of four children born to John and Flora Berg. At age 7, Bob's family moved to Rock, where his father had been hired to set up an auto repair facility, gas station and auto dealership for the Rock Co-op.

During World War II, the family relocated to Eben, where Bob attended the Rock River School System. Following the war, Bob's family relocated to Rock, with Bob graduating from Rock High School in 1948.

Bob served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1954. Afterwards he spent most of his working years employed by the U.S. Government, retiring in 1989.

In 1952, Bob married Bertha (Lustick) Berg and together they had five children.

Bob is survived by his children, Mike of Rapid River, James (Lori) Berg also from Rapid River, Robert (Lorraine) of Norton Shores, Mich., Mary of Escanaba, and David (Luisa) also from Escanaba. Additional survivors include eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Bertha (Feb. 7, 2013); and brothers Bill and Jack; and sister Nancy Hill.

Bob was a firm believer in the blood donation system as a chance to help others with very little sacrifice by the donor. He donated for over 50 years, stopping at the time of his cancer diagnosis.

Honoring his wishes, there will be no public visitation or service for Robert "Bob" Berg.
