Michigan GOP official charged in standoff

ESCANABA (AP) - A Michigan Republican State Committee member faces charges in Wisconsin over what police say was an armed standoff with officers responding to his suicide threat.

Fifty-one-year-old Doug Sedenquist of Escanaba has a Sept. 3 court date in Green Bay, Wis., on charges of disobeying police, sending a threat and disorderly conduct.

The Detroit Free Press and the Green Bay Press Gazette say Sedenquist phoned his estranged wife March 3 and she realized he was following her.

A complaint in Brown County, Wis., Circuit Court says Green Bay police surrounded Sedenquist's pickup truck. It says he pointed a rifle at his stomach and held off police about 30 minutes before surrendering.

Sedenquist also is Delta County Republican vice chairman and has worked in talk radio. Defense lawyer Chad Thomas declines comment.
