Mark J. Martin

GARDEN PENINSULA - Lifelong Garden Peninsula resident, Mark J. Martin, 61, of Fairport died unexpectedly on Aug. 7, at his home.

He was born July 5, 1952, in Escanaba the son of Orville and Yvette (Cota) Martin and was a graduate of Big Bay de Noc High School. He furthered his education at Bay de Noc Community College.

Mark, along with his business partner, Darrel Pizzala owned and operated Divine Construction of Garden for the past 18 years. He had previously worked on road construction for Payne & Dolan and was also a woodsworker.

He was currently serving on the Board of Education at the Big Bay de Noc School and worked on several committees. He was an avid Green Bay Packer and Detroit Tiger fan.

Mark is survived by his loving life partner of 36 years, Sandra K. Casey of Fairport; mother, Yvette Martin of Gaylord; Sandy's children, Lon (Irma) Hider of Garden Corners, Jeani (Dan) Dalgord of Fayette, LaDonna (Keith) Slack of Skandia, Tracey Casey of Green Bay, Wis., Chris (Kelly) Casey of DePere, Wis., and Sondra L. Casey of Fairport; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Anne (Gary) Olson of Gaylord; brothers, Wayne (Patricia) Martin of Appleton, Wis., Jude (Linda) Martin of Stevens Point, Wis., Joseph (Gail) Martin of Elk River, Minn., and Paul (Mary) Martin of Kingsford; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Orville H. Martin.

Visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 12, at the Garden Congregational Church in Garden. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m., Monday, at the church with Pastor Lon Hider and Pastor Darrel Pizzala officiating. Burial will follow in the Sac Bay Cemetery at Fairbanks Township.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Big Bay de Noc School Playground Fund.

The Messier-Broullire Funeral Home of Manistique and Garden is assisting the family with the arrangements.
