BARK RIVER - Pet lovers will have an opportunity to support the Delta Animal Shelter during a special fundraiser being hosted by the Bark River Lions Club at the Bark River International Raceway next weekend.

Gates open for the Rockin' and Rollin' on the Hill fundraiser at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10. A $1 donation to the animal shelter at the gate gets visitors access to the day's events. Those interested in camping at the event can rent one of 100 campsites for $25. Campsites will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, and campers can begin arriving at the raceway at noon.

"The Bark River Lions Club is putting it on for us and giving us the proceeds," said Tonya Gartland, vice president of membership for the Delta Animal Shelter.

"This is their first year doing it for us. Normally they have two races but they only have one this year so they're doing this for us instead."

A bake sale will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. and visitors will be able to purchase tickets for bucket raffles throughout the day. A variety of pet themed and other items will be raffled off.

"We're going to have some dog and cat baskets and some other things," said Gartland.

Between 2 and 6 p.m. a bean bag tournament will take place. Participants can register in advance before Aug. 8 at the reduced rate of $20 per two-person team. Registrations will also take place starting at 1 p.m. the day of the event at a registration fee of $30 per team. Only the first 40 teams registered by either method will be entered into the contest.

The competition will follow the rules of the World Bean Bag Association. The tournament will be a double elimination tournament which guarantees that each team participating will play two matches. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first and second place teams.

Music will be provided by DJs from Moonlight Entertainment from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Karaoke singers are also welcome to join in the music at this time. Local band Driver will continue the day's music into the night, performing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Food and refreshments will be provided by the Bark River Lions and the Heart of the North Lions throughout the event. Other family friendly activities, such as face painting and inflatable bounce houses are also planned for the event.

Funds raised by the Rockin' and Rollin' on the Hill fundraiser will assist the shelter in building their new facility. Registration forms for the bean bag tournament and more information about the fundraiser can be found by visiting the Delta Animal Shelter's website at www.deltaanimal.org or by contacting the shelter directly at 789-0230. Information about the Bark River Lions Club can be found on their website at www.barkriverlions.com.
