Charles K. ‘Chaunce’ LaCount

CARNEY - Charles K. "Chaunce" LaCount, 89 of Carney, Mich., passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, Mich. Charles was born on Nov. 3, 1923, in Carney, Mich., to the late Charles E. and Flossie (Shore) LaCount. On Aug. 6, 1950, Charles married the former Ruth Schroeder in Ithaca, Mich.

Charles attended County Normal College in Menominee, Northern Michigan University, and Emmanuel Missionary College where he earned his bachelor's degree. Charles would later go on to receive his master's degree from the University of Michigan. Charles worked his career as a junior high school teacher at Spangle School (1944-1946), Wilson School (two years), Bedford, Cedar Lake, Battle Creek, and Andrews University for 31 years retiring in 1987. Charles left lasting impressions on many students whose lives he touched throughout his teaching years.

Charles was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Wilson, Mich.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ruth of Carney, Mich.; and one daughter, Suzanne (Lee) Hayford of West Monroe, N.Y.

Charles was preceded in death by his sister, Madeline Pierce.

Visitation for Charles will be held on Monday, July 29, after 2 p.m. CST until time of funeral service at 3 p.m. CST at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Wilson, Mich., Pastor Tony Ludwig officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.andersondiehm.com.

In lieu of other forms of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established in Charles name.
