Caroline ‘Dolla’ Crnich

ESCANABA - Caroline "Dolla" Crnich, 90, of Escanaba, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

Caroline was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Privatna, Croatia, the daughter of Nicholas and Anna (Ofak) Crnich Sr. She was raised in Escanaba and graduated from the Escanaba Senior High School. She later attended the St. Mary's School of Nursing in Milwaukee, where she received a bachelor's degree. Caroline eventually returned to Escanaba and went to work at the St. Francis Hospital and managed the OB department for many years until she retired at the age of 65. She assisted in the delivery of over 30,000 babies during her 37 years. She was also a very active member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Wells and served as the secretary and treasurer of the Croatian Lodge.

Caroline is survived by her nieces and nephews, Jim Goymerac of Appleton, Wis., Greg (Holly) Goymerac of Appleton, Wis., Dan (Mirjana) Goymerac of Appleton, Wis., Margaret (Jim) Unger of Littleton, Colo., Judy (Dan) Possi of Escanaba, Jean Redd of Aurora, Colo., Kathy Bowman of Euliss, Texas, Nancy (Oscar) Sulit of Euliss, Texas, and Joe (Tracy) Crnich of Ogden, Utah; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Nick Crnich Jr.; and her sister, Mary Jean Goymerac.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 26, from 3 to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, July 27, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Parish prayers will be at 5:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Wells with Rev. Fr. Rick Courier officiating. A luncheon will be served following the services in the church fellowship hall. Caroline will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
