Jean O. Hengesh

ESCANABA - Jean O. Hengesh, 97, of 329 South 14th St., Escanaba, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Christian Park Village in Escanaba. She was born Nov. 11, 1915, in Escanaba and was the daughter of John and Lillian Sullivan. Jean graduated from Escanaba High School.

The former Jean Sullivan married Edmund Hengesh April 27, 1940, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Escanaba and he preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 2005. Ed and Jean owned and operated Hengesh Service Station located at 1422 Ludington St.

Jean was a member of the First United Methodist Church, was active in the ladies guild at church, was a life member of the General Federation of Women's Club serving as past president, and enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, watching the Green Bay Packers and traveling, especially to Las Vegas.

She also was a member of the Highland Golf Club, the Elks Lodge Auxiliary and did volunteer work for the American Heart Association and the Delta County Cancer Alliance. Jean and her husband Ed enjoyed socializing, meeting up with their friends every Friday and Saturday nights.

Jean O. Hengesh is survived by her two sons, Edmund (Glenda) Hengesh of Reed City, Mich. and Robert (Patti) Hengesh of Escanaba; two grandsons, Ed (Jennifer) Hengesh and Jeff (Chris) Hengesh; five great-grandchildren, Brittany, Eddie, McKenzie, Jeff and Shane; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Paul and Jack Sullivan; and sister, Julie Sullivan.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Jean O. Hengesh will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Monday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carman Minarik officiating. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
