Hostage suspect appears in court

ESCANABA - Two Cornell men were arraigned today in Delta County District Court in connection with a hostage incident in Flat Rock Tuesday night.

John Joseph Sarasin, 62, was officially charged with unlawful imprisonment, felonious assault, committing a felony while in the possession of a firearm, and interference of an electronic communications.

His brother, Daryl John Sarasin, 64, was charged with assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer at the scene.

John Sarasin allegedly held his 64-year-old wife hostage while he was armed with a pistol. The victim escaped from their home unharmed Tuesday night prior to police arresting her husband without incident early this morning.
