Police investigate death of motorist

SHINGLETON - Investigation continues into the death of a motorist who crashed a vehicle in Alger County early Wednesday morning, according to Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post.

Troopers were dispatched at 2:40 a.m. to Highway 15 near Shingleton for a one-vehicle accident. Upon arrival, they found a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier engulfed in flames. After the fire was extinguished, a deceased occupant was located inside the car.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending further investigation. Speed is said to be a factor in the crash, according to a news release.

Agencies assisting at the scene included Munising City Police Department, Munising Township Fire Department, Alger County Sheriff Department, and Alger County Emergency Medical Services.
