ESCANABA - On June 21,1948, John Greis and the former Irma Bartley were united in marriage. The couple now celebrates 65 years of marriage.
John and Irma were married at St. Patrick's Church in Escanaba by Monsignor Melican. Attendants were Toni Giansanti Sattler, maid of honor, and John Kroll, best man. The bride's sister, Betty Bartley Dunlap, and the groom's sister, Marge Greis Milokna, were bridesmaids. Serving as groomsmen were Richard Marenger and Frank Sudac.
John worked for Mead Paper for 36 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Peninsula Federal Credit Union for over 30 years. He has also been a member of the Elks, American Legion Post 82 and recently selected as the Legionnaire of the Year and a past member of the Highland Golf Course.
Irma and John Greis
Irma worked for Dr. Don Photenhauer for 10 years and the Mata Brown Shoppe for many years, modeling during the lunch hours at the House of Ludington along with working at the store. She is a member of the St. Thomas Guild, RSVP volunteer at the St. Francis Hospital Gift Shop and at the Bishop Noa Home. Irma was also a past member of the Highland Golf Course.
John and Irma are members of the St. Thomas/St. Anthony Church.
The couple's children are Susan (Al) Pifke of Bark River, Dr. Don and Kathie Nyquist of Escanaba, John Greis of Marquette, Marcia Short of Escanaba and Gary Greis of Escanaba.
They also have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A family dinner at the Terrace is scheduled in early July.
John and Irma reside in Escanaba.
