Help mark Escanaba’s 150th year

June 27, 2013
Daily Press

Escanaba's Sesquicentennial Celebration begins in just nine days. On Friday, July 5, the event starts with a parade down Ludington Street. Ten days later, on Sunday, July 14, the celebration will conclude with officials burying a time capsule at the Municipal Dock and a concert in Ludington Park. Over this 10 days there will be an array of events ranging from races to picnics to concerts. The list is too long to mention here.

All of the events have one thing in common, though. They are taking the efforts of numerous volunteers to become a reality. Many area residents are doing their part to make the celebration a memorable one by volunteering their time and resources to help mark Escanaba's 150th anniversary.

Make no mistake - this is a massive task and the help of many hands will be needed to make it possible. Recently, Esky150 organizers said they could use a few more of those hands to help out. Volunteers are still needed for several of the events. Others are needed to help clean up and pass out information.

Escanaba's Sesquicentennial Celebration is the culmination of two and a half years of planning by a group of dedicated individuals. They deserve the thanks of the community for taking on this massive task. If you have some free time, you can help too by volunteering to help. You can find out where volunteers are needed by visiting www.esky150.org or call (906) 786-0631.

If you don't volunteer now, your next chance won't come around until 2063. That's when Escanaba will celebrate its bicentennial.
