HOLT, Mich. - Eighteen high school students recently gathered in Holt, Mich., to compete in the 24th Annual Right to Life of Michigan Educational Fund High School Oratory Contest. The students, traveling from different cities throughout the state, had each won contests held by their local Right to Life of Michigan affiliates.
Contestants each presented five to seven minute speeches concerning one of several pro-life issues including abortion, infanticide, euthanasia and cloning.
Third place went to Gabriella Byers of Right to Life of Delta County. Gabriella is a home-schooled senior from Crystal Falls. Her speech defined abortion as genocide and examined its eugenic history.
"Our judges' choices were difficult" said Chris Gast, coordinator for the state contest. "Only a handful of points separated our top finishers, and all of our contestants gave excellent speeches."
Right to Life of Michigan is a nonpartisan, nonsectarian, nonprofit organization of diverse and caring people united to peacefully protect the precious gift of human life from fertilization to natural death.
