BARK RIVER - George R. Ashley Jr., 59, of Bark River, passed away suddenly Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital, following complications of a heart attack.
George was born Nov. 30, 1953, in Louisville, Ky., the son of George Sr. and JoAnne (Bray) Ashley. He was raised in Louisville and was a graduate of the Illinois school system. Following graduation, George enlisted in the United States Army where served during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge.
On July 21, 2001, George was united in marriage to the former Glenna Seymour and together the couple made their home in Bark River.
George was an early riser and hard worker throughout his entire life. As a "Jack of all Trades," George worked as a handyman and plowed snow for many years, as well as, various construction jobs over the years.
He specialized in pressure washer repair and service. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and camping. He will be deeply missed.
Survivors include George's loving wife, Glenna; son, Joshua Ashley; stepson, Christopher Seymour; brothers, Mike (Tammy) Bray, Darren (Tammy) Ashley; sisters, Rosemary (Tommy) Sears, Sherri Ashley; grandchild, Cassandra. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and JoAnne; brother, David; and sister, Karen.
Memorial services celebrating George's life will be held on Sunday, June 23, at 2 p.m. at his home located at 3841 9th Lane, Bark River. A luncheon will be served following the services.
