MANISTIQUE - William "Muckwa" Erickson, 68, of 1862S Little Harbor Road, Manistique (Thompson), Mich., died unexpectedly on June 18, 2013, at the Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique.
He was born July 15, 1944, in Thompson, Mich., the son of Ellis and Virgie (Yoeman) Erickson and attended Manistique Area Schools. He served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Spain.
On Feb. 8, 1969, he married the former Virgie King in Hastings, Mich. They raised their family in Gobles, Mich., and moved to Thompson in 1994 from Boyne Falls, Mich. Bill was employed as an electrical service technician with Consumer's Energy, retiring after 31 years of service.

He was a member of the Schoolcraft County V.F.W. Post 4420 of Manistique and was also a member and elder of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. He loved to tinker and was a jack of all trades. He loved to help family and friends. He enjoyed cookouts with his friends in "Da-Bar" and was the C.E.O. of the big "B.S. Club." He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
Bill is survived by his wife, Virgie Erickson of Thompson; daughter, Teresa Erickson Miles of Manistique; grandson, Nicholas Miles of Gobles, Mich.; stepson, Billy Jack Burkhead of Corpus Christi, Texas; brother, Orville (Evelyn) Erickson of Manistique; along with nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jason Erickson in 1991; and his brother, Gerald Erickson.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique.
A veteran's ritual-prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
