Pickard named to MSU Dean's List

EAST LANSING - Alex Pickard of Gladstone has been named to the Michigan State University Dean's List for the Spring semester 2012-2013 school year. Currently completing his junior year at Michigan State where he is studying criminal justice, Alex is part of the Security Management program at MSU and frequently attends campus security meetings. He also served as house manager at his school's chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

Alex is the son of Karen and John Pickard of Gladstone.

Shapy awarded St. Norbert degree

DE PERE, Wis. - Leslie M. Shapy, daughter of Jerry and Kay of Escanaba, graduated from St. Norbert College on May 12. The commencement ceremony was held at the Schuldes Sport Center on the St. Norbert College campus in De Pere, Wis. Leslie was awarded a bachelor of art's degree, majoring in English with an emphasis in creative writing and minoring in communication and media studies.

During her senior year, Leslie maintained a 4.0 grade point average and served as the editor-in-chief of the St. Norbert Times, St. Norbert College's bi-weekly newspaper. In addition, she was a member of Sigma Tau Delta, an international English honor society.

Leslie has accepted a position with Humana as a dedicated customer-care specialist for the dental branch of the corporation.

Giesel presented with GVSU award

ALLENDALE - Michelle Giesel of Rapid River is the recipient of the Physical Therapy Departmental Award from Grand Valley State University.

Giesel is a graduate of Rapid River High School.

At the graduate level, the faculty reviews the academic records of doctorate degree candidates to choose the one award recipient for each graduate degree program.

Meyers named to GVSU honor society

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Karrie Meyers of Bark River has been named to the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Grand Valley State University. Karrie is the daughter of Jim and Gwen Meyers and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in health professions at Grand Valley.

The primary objective of the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is the recognition and encouragement of superior scholarship and character in all academic disciplines.

Undergraduate students are eligible for consideration who have senior status and are scholastically in the upper 10 percent of their class; or who have reached the final period of their junior year and are scholastically in the upper five percent of their class.

Kositzke awarded master's degree

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Chuck Kositzke graduated May 19 from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh with his master's of science degree in information technology, with a concentration in software development processes, with highest distinction.

A 1990 graduate of Gladstone High School and of Central Michigan University, he is employed as an information technology project manager for General Motors.
