Lyle L. Thill

GARDEN - Lyle L. Thill, 88, of 4324 II Road, Garden (Fayette), Mich., died June 15, 2013, at his home in Fairbanks Township.

He was born April 26, 1925, in Flint, Mich., the son of David and Idah (Lang) Thill and attended the Mud Lake School and the Garden school.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, seeing duty in the Pacific Theater.

On Sept. 25, 1967, he married the former Jayne M. Miller in Lansing, Mich., and they made their home in the Okemos, Mich., area. Jayne preceded him in death on Dec. 14, 1977.

Lyle was employed as an iron worker on bridge construction.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 545 of Garden, the Iron Workers Local 25, and was a life-member of the Schoolcraft County V.F.W. Post 4420 of Manistique. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bird watching. He was fortunate to have participated in an Upper Peninsula Honor Flight to Washington D.C. two years ago.

Lyle is survived by his sons, Lyle Thill II of Fayette and John Thill of Holt, Mich.; stepsons, Pat Beckwith of Boston and Mike Beckwith of Dewitt, Mich.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Thill, Kellen Thill, Chad Thill, Jerred Thill, Jennifer Thill, Tina Thill, Eddie Thill, Pat Beckwith, Jered Bechwith and Rachel Beckwith; several great-grandchildren; brother, Virgil (Lois) Thill of Farmington Hills, Mich.; sister-in-law, Pat Thill of Fayette; along with nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Idah (Lloyd) St. Ours; his father, David Thill; his son, Peter Thill; and his brother, Glen Thill.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Garden.

Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Darrel Pizzala officiating.

Burial with military honors will be held at the New Garden Cemetery in Garden Township. Memorial donations may be directed to the Big Bay de Noc Scholarship Foundation. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mbfuneral.com
