Rodney ‘Porky’ Lindstrom

GLADSTONE - Rodney "Porky" Lindstrom, 83, of 9061 Stagecoach Q Pt. 5 Ave. in Gladstone passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at his home in Gladstone. He was born May 27, 1930, in Escanaba and was the son of Lloyd and Susan (Parrett) Lindstrom, Sr.

Rodney work in the installation of telephone lines with Michigan Bell and installed the telephone system on Mackinac Island.

He also was a private pilot flying freight for Federal Express and the American Red Cross. He later owned and operated T and T automotive in Livonia, Mich., before moving back to the Upper Peninsula in 1982.

He married the former Nancy Dietrich on Oct. 23, 1982.

Rodney was a hockey coach for many years, coaching the Wayne Chiefs (a semi-pro hockey team) to a National Championship in 1980. He also coached his children in hockey, baseball and softball in the Delta County area. He was a Golden Gloves boxer and a life member of the National Riffle Association. He enjoyed watching and supporting his son Mark in motocross. Rodney was an avid hunter and very passionate about feeding his deer and loved going to camp every chance he had. He loved to spend time with the family and was an avid Detroit Red Wing fan.

Rodney "Porky" Lindstrom is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Peggy, Kimberly and Patrick Lindstrom, all of Lower Michigan, Heidi (Al) Smith of Escanaba, Tina Green of Gladstone, Shannon Lindstrom of Gladstone, Mark (Cristina) Lindstrom of Livonia, Mich.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill (Diane) Lindstrom of Naselle, Wash., Terry (Mary) Lindstrom of Muskegon, Mich.; sister, Suzanne Lough of Portland, Ore.; special friend, Mike Kaljian of Northville, Mich.; dog, Molly; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by son, Michael Lindstrom; and brothers, Randy Lindstrom and Lloyd "Torgo" Lindstrom, Jr.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, June 14, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Gladstone. A closing prayer services will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel led by Nora Smith. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services at the First Lutheran Church fellowship hall in Gladstone.
