STONINGTON The annual quilt blessing celebration took place in mid-May at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stonington. The event was in celebration of another year of hard work performed by the women in the community of Stonington.
This year the quilt blessing was celebrated on Mother's Day at Trinity with over 50 works of art. The quilts will be given to Tri-County Safe Harbor, formerly Alliance Against Violence and Abuse in Escanaba, to be further donated to mothers and families in need.
The quilters meet every Monday morning from 9 to noon for their weekly work. In the past, their quilts have been donated to facilities such as Bay Pines Center in Escanaba, Wilwin Lodge for Veterans, St. Jude's Voice for Youth, The Salvation Army, Bay Cliff Health Camp, the Veterans Hospital in Iron Mountain, and the Jacobetti Care Facility in Fortune Lake.
Trinity Lutheran Church quilters are: front, Ginny Dahlin, Trisha Sprague, Ann Hager, and Diane Srutowski; back row, Carole Mosher, Jo Rust, Sanja Roberts, Eleanor Weycker, Kathy Nachtwey, Mary Latchet and Sanja Roberts. Not present for photo was Lorraine Novak.
The church relies on community support in the form of donations of 100 percent cotton fabrics for the creation of these quilts and the quilters also assemble personal care packages for those in need. Anyone wishing to make a donation, or for contact information, may email the Church Vicar, Diane Srutowski, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
