RAPID RIVER - TOPS Club, Inc. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) announces that members of TOPS MI 1791, Rapid River, recently named Margaret Eagle as their new chapter leader. Other officers were also elected, including: co-leader, Kris McDonald; secretary, Sherri Parrett; and treasurer, Bonnie Houle. In addition to the officers, Eagle has appointed Alice Majestic as weight recorder and Sally Majestic as assistant recorder.

A volunteer-run organization, the TOPS chapter Leader runs weekly meetings, leads a variety of educational programs that help members reach and maintain their weight-loss goals, promotes the TOPS message in the community, and more. The Co-Leader will assist with these activities while the Secretary official records meeting minutes and the Treasurer is responsible for the chapter's finances.

Alice Majestic is the chapter's Weight Recorder. She records the weights of each member during weekly weigh-in and submits these numbers to the designated TOPS Field Staff members. Absolute confidentiality is required as is the ability to support members if they gain and to applaud when they have a loss.

Newly elected officers for TOPS MI 1791, Rapid River, are: from left, Bonnie Hoult, treasurer; Alice Majestic, weight recorder; Margaret Eagle, leader; Kris McDonald, co-leader; Sherri Parrett, secretary; and Sally Majestic, assistant weight recorder.

TOPS members lost a total of 951,902 pounds - 476 tons - in 2007. The prevalence of overweight and obesity has become an alarming public health concern. The Surgeon General has estimated that two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese. The recent weight-loss data from TOPS proves there is a solution to this epidemic. The key is medically sound, affordable, group support and education.

"At TOPS we understand that losing weight is a journey. It's the consistent encouragement, understanding and strength from people who are struggling with similar issues that make this organization so successful," said Eagle.

Weekly meetings of TOPS MI 1791 take place at 10 a.m. Thursdays at the Rapid River Congregation Church. Visitors are always welcome to attend; their first meeting is free of charge. To find another local chapter, visit www.tops.org or call TOPS Headquarters at 800-932-8677.
