IRON MOUNTAIN - A Dickinson County man died when his riding lawnmower flipped into a river and pinned him under the water Wednesday, according to Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post.
Melvin Miner, 71, of Norway Township, was operating a riding mower at his residence when the vehicle slid off the river bank. The mower flipped over, pinning Miner in about two feet of water, said troopers in a news release today.
Troopers responded to the emergency call at around 4:15 p.m. Despite lifesaving measures being performed, Miner was pronounced dead at the scene.
State police were assisted by Norway Police Department, Dickinson County Sheriff Department, the Department of Natural Resources, Norway Fire Department, North Alert, and Beacon Ambulance.
