BESSEMER - A Bessemer man recently convicted of murdering his wife last year was ordered to spend the rest of his life in prison without parole Wednesday, according to Gogebic County Circuit Court officials.

Earlier this month, a jury found Kenneth Wayne Peters, 50, guilty of killing Ethel Grzena/Peters, 79, a former Delta County resident. Her body was found in Watersmeet Township 10 days after her husband had reported her missing last August.

A jury convicted Peters of first-degree murder on May 1 after deliberating more than 12 hours following a 17-day trial. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole on this charge.

The jury also found Peters guilty of one count of second-degree abuse of a vulnerable adult. He was sentenced to 58 months to 180 months in prison on this felony.

Peters reported his wife missing on Aug. 3. Following an intensive investigation by area law enforcement, her body was found on Aug. 13. Peters was arrested the following week and lodged in jail without bond. He will be transported to a state prison.
