McKnight awarded master's degree

EAST LANSING - Bethany McKnight has been awarded a master's degree in piano pedagogy from Michigan State University School of Music during commencement ceremonies held May 4 at the Wharton Center on the MSU Campus in East Lansing.

She presented her required graduation recital at Cook Recital Hall on April 22. Her selections included Sonata in A minor, Op. 143 by Franz Schubert; Ballade No. 1 in G minor, Op 23 by Frederic Chopin; Variations on an Egyptian Folksong by Gamal Abdel-Rahim; Ukom from "Talking Drums" by Joshua Uzoigwe; and Allegro de Concierto by Enrique Granados.

Bethany McKnight

A 2002 graduate of Gladstone High School, Bethany earned a bachelor's degree in music from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo in 2007. Since her graduation, she has been a piano instructor at Crescendo Academy of Music and also serves as a piano lab instructor at the Irving S Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, both in Kalamazoo.

Bethany is the daughter of Lorraine McKnight of Kalamazoo and granddaughter of Jim and Dorothy McKnight of Gladstone. She and her husband, Andrew Kamau, make their home in Kalamazoo.
