EDITOR:

Being one of the 76 World War II veterans that enjoyed the trip to Washington D.C. last Wednesday, I would be remiss if I didn't say what a display of warmness that your city gave us that day. The police escort to the airport, the motorcycle honor guard going to the airport with us, the high school band playing for us at 5:30 a.m. and again at 9 p.m. when we returned and especially the 350 to 400 members of the community standing and cheering us in 35 degree weather, shaking our hands as we made our way to the aircraft hanger, you made us feel like heros (to me the real heros are the veterans that never came back from war). What a display for us veterans.

Barbara Van Rooy, Paula Waeghe and their helpers had everything to perfection, Girl Scout blankets, caps, jackets, shirts, letters from school students all contributed to make that day a day I'll never forget.

I can never thank you and your city enough.
