MARINETTE - The Lake Superior Circuit of the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society (LWMS) held its spring rally at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marinette in late April. One hundred and six attendees gathered to worship and to hear about mission work conducted by the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) in Hong Kong and Taiwan, China.
The speaker, Kristin Lehman, is a WELS Kingdom Worker who has served as a laywoman teaching English in Taiwan for several years. She most recently has worked as librarian at Asia Lutheran Seminary in Hong Kong, where the attainment and translation of religious instruction materials is vital to the advanced education of Chinese Lutheran workers.
The worship service offering was given to the Asia Lutheran Seminary to continue their efforts in a nation where atheism and ancestor worship traditions are pervasive.
A check for $2,000 is being presented to Nancy Hansen of Menominee by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans representative, Dave Huckstep of Escanaba. The presentation was made at the recent Spring Rally of the Lake Superior Circuit of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society (LWMS). The money is to help with the cost of a bus trip for women in Michigan and Wisconsin to attend the 50th Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society (LWMS) International Convention at LaCrosse, Wis., in June.
Jacky Stoll, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Oconto Falls, was elected circuit president; Pat Klenow, Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Iron Mountain, was elected treasurer; and Linda Comins, Our Savior Lutheran Church, Lena, will serve as the Spiritual Growth Laywoman. They will serve a two-year term of office.
The mission monies that were collected in the circuit totaled nearly $4,500 and will be distributed between the Vans for Missions project and a world mission effort in Russia.
