Louise (Lou) Knapp (Zimmerman) Ebbesen

ESCANABA - Louise (Lou) Knapp (Zimmerman) Ebbesen, 84, of 428 S. 9th St., Escanaba, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013, at Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba. She was born June 4, 1928, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., and was the daughter of Glenn and Lena (Ladd) Knapp. Lou graduated from Sault Ste. Marie High School in 1946. The former Lou Knapp married Henry O. Zimmerman in 1950, they lived many years in Dowagiac, Mich., and Sault Ste. Marie. Lou married Nels F. Ebbesen in 1973, they lived in Escanaba and traveled the world with family and friends; Nels preceded her in death in 2007. Lou was a life-long member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She spent many hours x-stitching and crocheting keepsakes for children and grandchildren. Louise enjoyed walking Michigan beaches looking for Lake Superior agates and camping with friends. The Packers were her team.

Louise is survived by: sister, Verna Malloy of St. Louis, Mich.; brother-in-law, Howard T. Maki of Grand Haven, Mich.; children, Ladd (Debra) Zimmerman of Belle Plaine, Minn., Dianna Lee (Terry) French of Escanaba, Mary Ann (Al) Raffaele of Valparaiso, Ind., Nancy (Rick) Wahl of Escanaba, Joseph Zimmerman of Marquette, Timothy Zimmerman of Milwaukee, Wis.; honorary son, Joel Beamish of Alma, Mich.; stepchildren, Merna (Bob) Jenshak of Escanaba, Nels (Kathy) Ebbesen of Winona, Minn., Jean Wallin of Escanaba, Nora (Fred) Rice of Escanaba; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; best friends, Jim and Ione Vicinci of Escanaba; several nieces and nephews; furry companions, Sam and Molly.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sister, Glenna Maki, and nephew, Thomas Maki.

Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Louise Ebbesen will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with James Vicinci officiating. Burial will take place in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
