Matt P. Majestic

RAPID RIVER - Matt P. Majestic, 76, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, April 30, 2013, at his home in Rapid River, surrounded by his loving family.

Matt was born Feb. 27, 1937, in Rapid River, the son of Matt C. and Mary (Merle) Majestic. He was raised in Rapid River and graduated from Rapid River High School. Following high school, Matt continued his education at Cloverland Commercial College where he received his degree in business. Matt worked the majority of his life on his family farm. In addition, he and his brother Mike owned and operated "Majestic IGA" grocery store in Ensign. He eventually gained a position for the United States Postal Service, working as a mail carrier until his retirement.

Matt was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in Rapid River. He was continuously active in his community. He was a member of the Rapid River Lions Club and served as President for the Ensign Township Zoning Board. He also served on the Ensign Township Board of Review and on the Rapid River Senior Center Board. Matt was also a faithful supporter and fan of Rapid River sports.

As an avid outdoorsman, Matt enjoyed going to camp to cut firewood, hunting, fishing and spending time in the outdoors enjoying nature. He loved to spend time with his family and is cherished for passing on many special traditions. He will be sadly missed.

Survivors include his brothers, Joe, Victor (Alice), George (Sally) Majestic all of Rapid River; sister, Mary LaCrosse of Rapid River; sister-in-law, Carol Majestic of Escanaba. Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Matt was preceded in death by his parents, Matt C. and Mary Majestic; brothers, Mike and Albert Majestic; sister, Helen Majestic; brother-in-law, Donald H. LaCrosse; sisters-in-law, Florence "Flossie" Majestic and Bertha "Boots" Majestic.

Matt's family will receive friends and additional family members on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial will follow visiting hours on Sunday, at 6 p.m., at St. Charles Catholic Church in Rapid River, with Rev. Fr. Jacek Wtyklo officiating. Luncheon will follow in the St. Charles Parish Hall. Matt will be laid to rest in the Rapid River Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Rapid River Sports Booster Club or the Delta County Cancer Alliance. Envelopes will be available at the Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County.
