Jerry L. Cousineau

COOKS - Jerry L. Cousineau, 70, of 16151 Hwy US-2, Cooks (Garden Corners), Mich., died April 22, 2013 at his home.

He was born Feb. 12, 1943 in Lansing, Mich., the son of Melvin and Genevieve (Marker) Cousineau.

He moved to Manistique as an infant and attended Manistique area schools. He was a graduate of Manistique High School.

On Sept. 29, 1962, he married the former Kay Frances Turek at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Nahma. They lived in lower Michigan for several years and moved back to Garden Corners in 1976.

Jerry was employed in supervision and as a heavy equipment operator with the Operating Engineers 324, retiring in 1997. He also owned and operated Cousineau and Son Excavating and later owned and operated Tylene's Restaurant and Motel at Garden Corners with his wife, Kay.

He was a member of the Garden Area Catholic Churches and the Knights of Columbus. Jerry loved to winter in Zephyrhills, Fla. He enjoyed going to equipment auctions, tinkering in the garage, going to the casino, restoring old Mustangs and repairing equipment, but most importantly, spending time with his family.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Kay Turek Cousineau of Garden Corners; son, Michael (Traci) Cousineau and children, Alicia, Nolan and Madeline (Maddie) of Garden Corners; daughters, Lisa (Jack) Hammond and daughter, Ashley of East Jordan, Mich., and Lori (Bill) Dalgord and children Janelle and Nathan, of Garden Corners; sister, Alma (Terry) Popour; several nieces and nephews, mother-in-law, Madeline Turek; sister and brother-in-laws, Ann and Bob Bingham, Sue and Mike Nowak, and Lee Turek.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Sue Cousineau; brothers, Robert and Melvin, Jr.; sister, Virginia Adams; and his father-in-law, Frances Turek.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. A K. of C. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. followed by liturgical prayers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Nahma with Father Antony Lukka officiating.

The Rite of Committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Fairview Cemetery in Manistique.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Big Bay de Noc School Scholarship Foundation in Jerry's name.
