ESCANABA - James William "J.W." Pascoe, 81, passed away April 17, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family after a long battle with an extended illness.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley; and five sons, Jim (Cindy) of Traverse City, Mich., Joe (Sharon), Dave (Debby), Tom (Joan), Dan (Theresa); and two daughters, Laurie (John) Kemink and Kathleen (Kevin) DeMent of Waterford, Wis. Survivors also include 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, his brother, Robert (Janice) of Niagara, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
J.W. was born May 6, 1931, in Houghton to James and Clarice (Cornellier) Pascoe. He graduated from Houghton High and later studied architecture in California. After high school, he served overseas in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

In 1952 he married his high school sweetheart, the former Shirley Niemi and soon after in 1956, the couple moved to Escanaba.
There they began their family and Pascoe Construction, which built one of the first apartment complexes in Escanaba on the old St. Anne's property and some of the early homes in the Lake Bluff Estates.
Pascoe Construction and J.W.'s legacy lives on under the management of his sons, Dave and Tom. Joe Pascoe of Joe Pascoe Builders also continues the family's tradition of quality work in the construction business.
J.W. was well known in the area for his interest in antique cars. He spent thousands of hours restoring, showing and driving award winning vehicles. He and Shirley traveled thousands of miles in their motor home participating in car events all over the United States. He is a former president of the Vintage Tin Car Club and would always have time to talk "cars."
Most of all he loved being with his family. He was the proud "Father" of his children and "Papa" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will all miss him more than words can describe.
The family wishes to thank OSF Home Health & Hospice Services, his aides and especially Phyllis for the good care he received during his last days on this earth.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Emmett Norden officiating. A meal will follow in the dining area.
