Betty I. Beck

GLADSTONE - Betty I. Beck, 90, of Gladstone, and currently residing at Christian Park Village, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, March 17, 2013, at the St. Francis Hospital, in Escanaba.

Betty was born April 6, 1922, in Gladstone, the daughter of Edward and Lillian (Norman) Hart. She was raised in Gladstone and was a graduate of the Gladstone Senior High School. Following high school, Betty moved to Massachusetts where she met and married her love, Kenneth D. Beck Sr., on Dec. 22, 1943.

Upon Ken's deployment during World War II, Betty relocated to Kansas where she resided near Ken's parents and gave birth to their first son, Kenneth Beck Jr. In 1947, upon the conclusion of her husband's military enlistment, the couple moved to Gladstone where they built their home, raised their family and spent their entire lives together. Ken Sr. preceded Betty in death on Dec. 21, 1994.

Throughout her life Betty worked primarily as a homemaker. In addition, she was proud to have been employed at the J.C. Penney store in Gladstone for many years. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.

Survivors include her sons, Kenneth (Patricia) Beck Jr. of Bonnersferry, Idaho, Dennis (Sue) Beck of Sussex, Wis.; daughter, Mary Jo Scarborough of Gladstone; brother, Robert (Lois) Hart of Gladstone; granddaughters, Mindy, Elkim, and Jennifer Beck.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lillian; and her husband, Kenneth.

Betty's family will receive friends on Friday, April 12, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Betty I. Beck will follow visiting hours at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Ronald Timock officiating.

Betty will be laid to rest in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.

Memorial contributions in Betty's name may be directed to the Gladstone Public Library. Envelopes will be available throughout visitation or at the Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County.
