HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 50-year-old woman has died following a shooting involving a state police trooper in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
The incident happened at approximately 6:05 p.m. Thursday. The trooper and a Marquette County sheriff's deputy responded Thursday night to the home in Marquette County's Humboldt Township following a 9-1-1 call reporting a domestic dispute involving a firearm.
Police say the officers were confronted by the woman, who was armed, and initial indications are that the trooper fatally shot her.
Police say the woman is from Champion Township. No further details, including the woman's name, were being released this morning.
Detectives from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post are continuing to investigate the incident. Personnel from the Michigan State Police Marquette and Grayling Forensic Science Labs are assisting investigators at the scene. Assistance was also provided by Bell and Republic EMS.
