ESCANABA - As part of the Escanaba Sesquicentennial celebration, the Bonifas Arts Center will feature an exhibit from June 20 through Aug. 1 that presents a look at Escanaba's geography and community through the lens of the Arts.

"We're going to be featuring a number of Escanaba locations that have an iconic importance," said Pasqua Warstler, Bonifas Arts and Education Director. "Along with historic photographs from the Delta County Historical Society, we'll display artworks from area residents. For example, we have photos of the House of Ludington that we'll exhibit with Jerry McKie's colored pencil piece of the hotel."

Warstler said area residents are invited to loan artworks for the show.

Bonifas Executive Director Mollie Larsen checks out a colored pencil picture of the House of Ludington done by Jerry McKie.

"We want to see what's out there," she said. "We're looking for views of Escanaba from the community, so if you or a family member have or have created a picture of our targeted locations, we'd like to see it."

"Right now the show is in the formative stages, so please let us know soon that you'd like to be a part of things."

Warstler said residents should let her know by email of any original artwork that might work well with the theme, so that the show can be planned.

"It's good to know in advance what kind of space we'll need," she said.

Pieces used in the show should be delivered to the Center from May 29 to June 13 and may be picked up Aug. 2. Owner and artist credits will be posted with the pieces.

Locations in the show include sites along the Waterfront including the lighthouse, park, marina, yacht club, fish house, boatyard, ore docks, and ice house. Downtown sites include the House of Ludington, the courthouse, the library, Saykllly's, the Delft Theater, Main Street, and the East Ludington Gallery. Other special Escanaba sites include the airport, U.P State Fairgrounds, and OSF St. Francis Hospital.

Everyone with artwork to share should email the Center at corinne@bonifasarts.org.

"We're excited about the show as part of our birthday gift to the community," Warstler said. "We're delighted that this will be an exhibit about and by this community. And a big thanks to the Escanaba 150 committee!"
