Mary E. Burroughs

GLADSTONE - Mary E. Burroughs, 87, of Gladstone, passed away Friday evening, March 29, 2013, at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba.

Mary was born Sept. 8, 1925, in Escanaba, the daughter of H.J. and Ruth (Bebeau) Norton. She was raised in Gladstone and was a 1943 graduate of the Gladstone High School. Mary was joined in marriage to R.J. "Jack" Burroughs on June 22, 1945, in Las Vegas, shortly before Jack's deployment during World War II.

Upon Jack's return, the couple made their home and raised their family in Gladstone. Throughout her life, Mary worked primarily as a homemaker. She loved playing bridge and belonged to several bridge clubs over the years. In addition, Mary enjoyed taking trips to the casino, traveling throughout the world, attending her birthday club lunches and cheering for the Green Bay Packers. She will be deeply missed.

Mary leaves to survive her four children, Judy (Glenn) Olsen of DePere, Wis., John (Marsha) Burroughs of Escanaba, Jim (Jan) Burroughs of Aptos, Calif., Jill (Ron) Derouin of Gladstone; brother, Ralph "Bud" (Marcella) Norton of Escanaba; sister, Elaine Sigan of Gladstone; grandchildren, Michael, Steven (Stephanie), Krista (Marc), Brian (Kim), Meghan (Mike), Chad (Jenn), Jessica (Shane), Tyler, Olivia and Emily; great-grandchildren, Maria, Zachary, Rachel, Evan, Ian, Bree, Sophia, Bailey, Alec and Colin; son-in-law, Mike Arbour of DePere, Wis.; sister-in-law, Kay Alko of Perkins. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, H.J. and Ruth; her loving husband, Jack; and daughter, Janet Arbour.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mary E. Burroughs will follow visiting hours at 3 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. Mary will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Burroughs family with arrangements. Memorial contributions in Mary's name may be directed to the Salvation Army.
