The city of Gladstone might well be the most dangerous city in Michigan to drive through. The death toll at its only two traffic lights on US 2-41, M-35 is staggering. We have just experienced the loss of two more upstanding citizens last week.
How many individuals must sacrifice their lives at either of these intersections before the state of Michigan does something? Perhaps, flashing caution lights at least a half mile or more in advance, a second flashing light indicating a vehicle's speed and a reduced speed limit to 45 or even 35 miles per hour may be necessary to prevent further carnage along this less than two mile stretch of roadway. All options need to be considered since nothing else, to date, has seemed effective.
