Cameron Elementary School students in Gladstone have something new to use in their classrooms. Students in several classrooms have recently had the opportunity to use stability balls in place of their desk chairs. These balls were received from the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians Community Transformation Grant Project. Studies have shown that use of stability balls in the classroom can have a positive effect on students ability to stay on task, increasing their physical activity, strengthening their posture and balance and improving their handwriting. The students are reported to have enjoyed how much fun seat work could be when they sat on a ball instead of a chair.
Nathan Young, a first-grade student in LeeAnne Iverson’s classroom, is pictured sitting on a stability ball while he works on an assignment.
