Richard Allen ‘Dick’ Pasino

GLADSTONE - Richard Allen "Dick" Pasino, 79, of 1520 Michigan Ave., Gladstone, passed away Wednesday evening, March 20, 2013, at home following a lengthy illness.

Richard was born July 10, 1933, in Cooks, the son of Everett and Grace (Healy) Pasino. He was raised in Muskegon and Manistique where he attended school prior to being drafted in the U.S. Army in 1953.

Dick served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 where he was stationed in France. Upon his honorable discharge in 1955 he returned to Marquette where he did carpentry work for Northern Michigan University until 1960.

Dick was united in marriage to the former Lola Fickinger on Sept. 15, 1956, in Cooks. They made their home in Escanaba from 1960 until 1998 when they moved to Gladstone. Dick worked as a carpenter, a member of Local Union 1510, until his retirement in the early 1990s.

Dick loved playing cards, especially cribbage. He was an avid football and baseball fan and especially enjoyed following the Detroit Lions and Tigers. In his retirement years, Dick liked tinkering around in his garage and doing home improvement projects. He treasured watching and following his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in sporting events. Dick will be remembered for his great sense of humor, teasing and harmless pranks.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, Lola, survivors include his children, Cathy (Rick) Mercier of Wilson, David Pasino of Gladstone, Dale (Judith) Pasino of Worchester, Mass., Daniel Pasino of Gladstone, Doug (Bonnie) Pasino of Elkton, Md., Dean Pasino of Highland Heights, Ky.; sisters, Caroll (Bernard) Lund of Cooks, Phyllis Strasler of Wartrace, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Rachel (Johnny) Walters, Shannon, Joshua and Tyler Mercier, Samantha Dansey, Eric Stempleski, Jason Buonomo and Brendon Pasino; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Urie and Mary Bellville.

Dick's family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 26, from 4 to 5:45 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military rites conducted by Gladstone American Legion Post 71 will follow at 5:45 p.m. Funeral services celebrating the life of Richard Allen Pasino will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Louis Hague officiating.

Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
