ESCANABA - A 20-year-old Escanaba woman was sentenced to up to 22 and a half years in prison for her role in the assault of a Bark River man in 2011. The judgment was handed down in Delta County Circuit Court on Friday.

Ashley Marie Stodola is one of three individuals arrested in connection with a scheme to assault and rob a 41-year-old Bark River man on Oct. 22, 2011, in Bark River Township.

Co-defendant Michael Scott Jones, 20, of Escanaba, was sentenced last month to 11 months in the county jail on one count of home invasion, third degree.

Co-defendant Alyna Caryn Brunette, 21, of Escanaba, was sentenced in January to seven months in jail on one count of attempted larceny in a building.

The three were arrested last fall following a year-long investigation by the Michigan State Police Post in Gladstone. The three defendants and others made plans to coax the victim to his home, break into his house, beat him with bats, and steal his money.

During Stodola's sentencing on Friday, she apologized for her actions and told the court she knew what she did was wrong.

Judge Stephen Davis said the defendant has a criminal career which now includes assaulting a victim. Because of her criminal history, the judge sentenced Stodola as a habitual offender which increases her prison term.

Stodola was sentenced to a minimum of three years and 10 months to a maximum of 22 and a half years in prison on one count of second-degree home invasion as a second offense habitual offender. She was given credit for 194 days served in jail.

Stodola was also sentenced to 194 days in jail on one count of attempted larceny as a second offense habitual offender. She was given credit for the 194 days served.

Stodola was ordered to pay restitution to be determined and pay $666 in fines and costs. She pleaded guilty to the above two offenses in February.
