Jack Patten

RAPID RIVER - Jack Patten, 76, of 7005 Osier 40th Road, Rapid River (Osier), passed away Monday March 4, 2013, at his residence in Osier.

Jack was born Oct. 10, 1936, in Remus, Mich., the son of William and Anna (Bearup) Patten. He was raised in Remus and attended the Remus Public Schools. Jack's working career began on the family farm in Remus and he later did construction work in the Grand Rapids area. Jack eventually moved to Mancelona, Mich., where he worked construction. While in Mancelona he met and married Beverley, and together they raised their children. They later moved to Newberry, Mich., where Jack worked for the DNR and Leonard's Potato Farm. In the late 80s, Jack moved to Stonington, and eventually settled at his current location in Osier. Prior to his retirement in 1999, Jack worked for Cal's Cedar Mill in Rapid River.

Jack loved the outdoors, he enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, trapping and working with horses and mules. Family was very important to Jack and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Jack was a member of the NRA and the U.P. Gas and Steam Engine Association.

Survivors include: two sisters, five sons, four daughters, 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a daughter, a brother and a sister.

Jack's family will receive friends on Sunday, March 10, from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Jack Patten will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. Luncheon will follow at the Rapid River American Legion. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Escanaba and Gladstone are assisting the Patten family.
