Roxine Elizabeth Lueneburg

ESCANABA - Roxine Elizabeth Lueneburg, age 88, of Escanaba passed away Sunday March 3, 2013 at Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba. She was born Aug. 21, 1924, in Philomath, Ore., and was the daughter of David and Naomi (Pierce) Ecker. Roxine graduated from Philomath, Oregon High School.

The former Roxine Ecker married John Lueneburg on March 1, 1944, in Oregon and he preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1991. Roxine and John moved from Oregon to Escanaba in 1945. Roxine was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, the Women's Guild at church, served on the vestry at church, was a branch leader of the prayer chain at church, was a Eucharistic minister at various nursing homes and was an ordained Deacon in the Episcopal Church. She always helped with the church rummage sale and worked in the kitchen for many functions when a meal was served at church. Roxine was a member of the Senior Companion Program and enjoyed bowling, crafts and sewing.

Roxine Elizabeth Lueneburg is survived by: sons, Marvin (Mae) Lueneburg of DePere, Wis., Stanley (Sophie) Lueneburg of Escanaba; daughters, Cheryl Scott of Indianapolis, Ind., Carolyn (Jim) Williams of Indianapolis, Ind., Jennie Hughes of Indianapolis, Ind.; nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Herschel and Alfred Ecker, half brother Stanley Jones, and sister Harriet Boneys.

Private family visitation and funeral services celebrating the life of Roxine Elizabeth Lueneburg will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba with Rev. David Simmons officiating. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
