Margaret ‘Marge’ Belongie

MARINETTE - Margaret "Marge" Belongie, 83, of Marinette, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at her son's home. She was born on Nov. 15, 1929, to the late Charles and Gretchen (Younger) Johnson in Escanaba.

Marge graduated in 1947 from Escanaba High School. On June 26, 1948, she married Lawrence J. Belongie in Escanaba. They later moved to Marinette and owned and operated Larry's Red Owl which later became the Firehouse Grill.

She was a member of Holy Family Parish, the Red Hat Society, the Marinette Women's Club, and many other organizations in the community. She loved to cook and bake and even helped out in the kitchen at the Village. She enjoyed crafting and sending cards. She was so funny and could tell a great story and was currently working on writing a book.

Marge is survived by six sons, Dave (Cheryl) of Gladstone, Robert (Karen) of Marinette, Dale (Lisa) of Maui, Hawaii, Jerry (Chris) of Milwaukee, Todd (Claire) of Gladstone and Kevin (Portia) of Marinette; two daughters, Kathy (Bob) Burki of Lakewood and Jeanne (Robert) Bolton of Sandie, Ore.; a brother, Carlton; a sister, Frances; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Lawrence, she was preceded in death by a sister, Leone Davis.

Friends may call at the Thielen Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb 28, from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. with Jane Mattsen officiating.

Entombment will be in Forest Home Mausoleum on Friday, March 1 at 1 p.m.In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
