Allen ‘Al’ Ray Reno

ESCANABA - Allen "Al" Ray Reno, 87, 2524 2nd Ave S., Escanaba, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at his home following a brief illness.

He was born on April 9, 1925, in Hermansville, Mich., son of Earl Stephen and Mary Corine (LaBlanc) Reno. He was raised in Flat Rock.

Allen served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from Dec. 12, 1942, until his honorable discharge on Dec. 9, 1948. His received the American Theatre Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

On Feb. 1, 1952, Allen married the former Jeannette Short in Berlin, Maryland.

He retired as district manager for State Farm Insurance in August of 1987.

Allen was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Escanaba.

Among his survivors include his wife; two sons, Steven E. (Jackie) and Michael A. Reno; daughter-in-law, Christine Reno; brother, Earl R. Reno; sister, Beverly Menard; and five grandchildren, Nathan, Andrew, Kathryn, Tony (Terri) and Tammy; and two great-grandchildren, Cristian and Dominic; brother-in-law, Wayne Berthume.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joseph F. Reno; grandson, Allen Ray Reno; and two sisters, Joanne M. (Clarence) Robitaille and Judy A. Berthume.

Visitation will be on Monday, March 4, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The American Legion Post 71 of Gladstone will conduct military rites at the funeral home at 4 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6 p.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with Rev. Rick Courier officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.

Entombment will be in Gardens of Rest Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at a later date in Allen's name.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Reno family with arrangements.
