ESCANABA - A Gladstone man was sentenced Monday to up to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a female teen last summer in Gladstone.

During his sentencing in Delta County Circuit Court, Jessy Lee Lawson, 22, was ordered to spend a minimum of 30 months to up to a maximum of 15 years in prison on one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

He was given credit for 107 days served in the county jail.

Lawson was also ordered to pay $198 in fines and costs. He cannot have contact with the victim or her family or any minor. He must register as a sex offender.

Prior to being sentenced on Monday, Lawson told the court he was sorry and that he can't blame anyone else for his actions.

Judge Stephen Davis told Lawson he doesn't realize the impact his criminal action has on the victim.

Lawson was originally charged with five counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. During his plea hearing last month, he pleaded guilty to one count of sexually assaulting a female victim aged 13-15 years during July and August. The other four felonies were dismissed in exchange for the guilty plea.
