MENOMINEE - Investigation continues into a fatal snowmobile accident that claimed the life of a 24-year-old Spalding man during the weekend, according to the Menominee County Sheriff Department.
Timothy Dean Graham was operating a snowmobile on the Cedar River waterway, east of Kell Road, when his sled struck some trees at 11:15 p.m., according to a news release from Sheriff Kenny Marks.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
"There was no passenger on the snowmobile," said Marks on Monday. "Two other snowmobiles were in the group. No one else was injured."
An accident investigator from the Michigan State Police Post in Gladstone is assisting in the investigation. Speed, loss of control, and alcohol appeared to be contributing factors in the crash, said Marks. The victim was wearing a helmet and protective equipment at the time of the accident, he added.
Agencies assisting at the scene included Hermansville Rescue, Rampart Paramedics, Menominee County Victim Services Unit, Michigan State Police, Menominee County Medical Examiner, Hannahville Tribal Police, Spalding Township Volunteer Fire Department, Harris Township Volunteer Fire Department, and Bark River Township Volunteer Fire Department.
