ISHPEMING - David Lancour finished second in district individual wrestling action last year and there was no way the Westwood High School senior was going to let that happen again Saturday.
Lancour pinned Cory Gillett of Rudyard in one minute, 58 seconds to claim the 285-pound division and advance to regional competition Saturday in downstate Rogers City.
"I went out there thinking it would be a hard match and it turned out easier than I thought," Lancour said.

Cole Gonzalez of Manistique grapples with Morgan Robins of Onaway in the 140-pound final at the Division-4 Individual Wrestling District Tournament at Westwood, Saturday. Gonzalez defeated Robins, 7-3, for the district title.
The WHS wrestler, now 21-5 this season, said he used a "fatman roll" to get the best of Gillett.
"I tried to turn him over a couple of times," he said. "I'm surprised I got the pin, but it feels awesome (to be a district champ)."
WHS coach Dan Carlson said it was "expected" but also "awesome" to see Lancour take the 285-pound championship.

"He's my nephew and I've been coaching him since the third grade. It's good to see him win a district title," the coach said.
Lancour was one of four Patriots to place in the top four of their weight classes to advance to regional action. Trevor Swanson (119), Cole Schultz (189) and Cameron Lawry (215) were the others.
"That's one better than last year," Carlson said. "Coming in, I thought we'd get four or five into the regionals. I'm pleased with what happened."
Cole Gonzalez of Manistique was another Superiorland wrestler to claim a title. He won the 140 division in a 7-3 decision over Morgan Robins of Onaway.
"I have a strong heart when it comes to wrestling," Gonzalez said. "The whole match pretty much went my way ... though (Robins) was good in the top position."
Manistique's Mat (145) and Zavier Gonzalez (160) were runners-up. Cheyenne Shaver (189) and Zach Lindenmuth (152), who re-injured his hand Saturday, placed fourth.
"I was pleased with the effort," said Manistique coach Gary Bowman. "We thought we had a solid chance to qualify four and were hoping to take five. For Cole, it's good to be seeded first going into the regional because it makes your chances of going to state so much better. It's always huge to win that first match in the regional.
"I thought Mat was off his game, but I think he'll come back strong next week. And Cheyenne upset the No. 4 seed from Norway, which really helped his chances to advance. We're real pleased for him to make his first regional (appearance) as a senior."
Newberry's Trent Doughty decisioned Mat Gonzalez for the 145 crown.
Bark River-Harris's Curt Labadie, who reached the heavyweight finals, earned his second straight regional berth. He was pinned 76 seconds into the title bout by two-time state champion Joe Ostman of St. Ignace.
Ishpeming had two wrestlers advance in Emily Myers (103) and Johnathan Willey (135). Myers was the only girl Saturday to move on in tournament play.
"I'm surprised I placed fourth," Myers said. "I was seeded fourth (in my weight class), but I was nervous that I'd lose before I got (to the consolation match).
"It's going to be scary in the regionals, but it's something I'll remember."
Gwinn's Alex Anderson (112) and CJ Redfearn (285) made the cut in their weight classes to gain berths in the regionals.
In somewhat of an oddity, a pair of Iron Mountain wrestlers - Jared Gauthier and Alex Edwards - squared off for the 119 title. Gauthier posted an 8-1 major decision.
"We wrestle each other in practice, but it's difficult to wrestle (against) someone you've known your whole life," Gauthier said. "We knew we had to be serious.
"We talked before the match about not having any hard feelings with whoever won."
